Pastel Games are hard at work on two new games, the first of which, as you can see above, is an epic dual-stick controlled adventure which eschews the tried and tested (to death, some might say) purely shoot ’em up approach, opting instead for introducing a hack ‘n’ slash style of play to the mix as you battle through its dungeons and tombs.
Set amid WW2, Shadow’s Edge casts you as a US Defense Department agent sent on a dangerous mission to deepest, darkest Africa to seek a legendary artifact that grants immortality, in order to tip the balance of the war in favor of the Allies.
In addition to atmospheric tomb raiding and action-packed weapon based combat, the game will offer you the chance to fly, swim, horse ride and even crawl your way through this globe-trotting jaunt. A release date for Shadow’s Edge has yet to be written in stone, but expect more news as soon as we manage to unearth it!
Next up is Above & Below, a fast-paced, top-down shooter. The explosive action takes place in primarily in the skies of WW1 and from the perspective of a German pilot, the fabled Red Baron no less! Missions will see you and Manfred von Richthofen blasting everything that moves, including enemy planes, tanks, turrets and some humongous end of level bosses.
Despite its old-school shmup mechanic and isometric view, the game looks set to deliver some impressive dog-fighting action with 3D enemies and jaw-dropping effects. Again a release date is as yet unconfirmed, but we’ll be spending some hands-on time with the game soon, so stay tuned for a preview and review in a future issue of iFanzine.
