Mobile gaming has come on leaps and bounds since good old Snake featured on the old Nokia’s. Game developers are now producing console level games that work across all devices. To be able to keep gaming on the move you need a phone that’s up to the job.
There are 5 main features that make a mobile phone suitable for mobile gaming.
VR Support
VR isn’t a new concept but its rapidly becoming one of the leading forms of immersive gaming. With games like Vanguard V and Maze Walk VR available you must have a device that can easily manage hand handle VR.
GPU – Graphics Chip
Mobile 3D and immersive games are now comparable to console games. Those extra pixels can give you the edge over the enemy when playing Fortnite.
Memory
Unsurprisingly the better the games have become the more storage space they need. Trying to play the latest games on a 32GB iPhone 6 just won’t cut it. Even with expandable storage some devices won’t download the larger games.
Processor Speed
The need for speed to play Need for Speed is apparent. Older generation phones can’t handle the latest games. You need a device with the latest chip sets. The difference between Apple’s A11 Bionic chip and the A12 is obvious when playing larger games.
Screen Size
Let’s face it, you can’t play a decent game on a screen that’s less than 5.5 inches. It just doesn’t work. Mobile gamers need large screens to fully enjoy the best games.

Sony XZ2
The XZ2 is popular among PlayStation fans. It has Qualcomm’s Snapdragon 845 chip which features in the S9, S9 Plus and Note 9. Its basically a smartphone with a Sony Bravia TV screen. The display isn’t the largest at 5.7 inches but its enough to play any game. The stereo speakers really bring the games to life and the Dynamic Vibration System makes it feel like you are holding a PS4 controller.
iPhone Xs Max
If you are an Apple fan it must be the Xs Max. It’s got a huge display, 6.5 inches. Even the smaller variation has a 5.8-inch display. The Xs was developed for mobile gaming. The A12 Bionic chip is (according to Apple) the most powerful processor in a smartphone in the world. Apple also improved the battery life on and it now lasts 30 minutes longer than the iPhone X.
Samsung Galaxy Note 9
This picture says it all. The Note 9 was once considered a business phone but its become a mobile gamers favourite. It’s a bit cheaper than the Xs but it doesn’t lose out on spec. It has a 6.4-inch screen which is more than enough for any gamer. The Snapdragon 845 chip powers the Note 9 with perfection. The battery is a 4000 mAH setup giving a little extra play time than the iPhone Xs. Finally, It’s the only phone on the market than can store up to 1TB.
If you are a mobile gamer, don’t go cheap on your phone. It might save you money but you won’t get the playing experience and you will be at a disadvantage when playing multiplayer games.
