If you were assembling a crack squad to send into the battlefield, you would want the choice of only the toughest, meanest, most talented soldiers known to humanity.
The same goes for Might & Magic: Elemental Guardians. There are many, many creatures to add to your roster, but some are better than others. If you’ve played the game — or indeed any RPG — you’ll know all about leveling up, gaining higher ranks, and using glyphs. You may also have grasped the way different skills and elemental affinities interact.
But you haven’t had, until now, is a simple way to tell at a glance whether a creature is worth recruiting and cultivating, ignoring, or cannibalising to help grow your other creatures. After all, glyphs and Seals are expensive, so you don’t want to waste any on a dud.
This tier list will give you an overview of the relative merits of each creature, so that you can spend less time painstakingly researching stats and more time conquering enemies.
Great. But what’s a tier list?
The tier list is a familiar concept to RPG aficionados, and it even crops up in other genres. It’s basically a crystallised overview of the characters in a game and how they compare with one another.
Naturally a tier list couldn’t possibly hope to capture every subtle nuance of each character’s unique skills, roles, and elemental affinities in the wider context of the game, but in principle a creature in a higher tier will almost always be more powerful in more modes and situations than one of its lower tier counterparts.
Crucially. A tier list is a subjective account. In compiling this tier list we’ve used our own observations alongside crowdsourced observations from as many players as possible through Reddit, YouTube, and message boards. We’ve made it as objective as possible. But if you have a different experience with the game, and feel a creature we’ve dismissed as a B is actually a stone cold S, more power to you.
How to use the tier list
We’ve made our tier list as simple as possible by sorting creatures into four categories.
- S: The elite corps. Creatures in this tier pretty much always merit heavy investment. You can lavish your finest glyphs on them and evolve them with total confidence that they’ll represent you proudly on the battlefield, no matter what the rest of the team is like.
- A: Literally the A team. While creatures in A tier don’t have the invincible sheen of their comrades in S, they are reliably worth evolving. However, like the motley individuals who make up television’s A Team, how effective they are really depends on the creatures around them.
- B: Creatures in this tier sometimes come in handy. They are your subs, waiting patiently on the benches or fulfilling a role on the battlefield because they have a skill you haven’t cultivated more effectively elsewhere.
- C: If you’re looking at a C creature, it’s almost certain that you could be looking at something better. If you have a 2-star creature in this tier, you may want to consider using it as fuel for the others.
You may have noticed that we haven’t included any 1-star creatures on this list. If you ask around in the Elemental Guardians community, you’ll find that almost nobody thinks a 1-star creature is bothering with. Use these poor saps as fuel and move on.
The star ratings provided below refer to each creature’s nat — or natural — state. So, a nat 4 creatures is one that has three stars when you find it. Don’t forget that any creature in Elemental Guardians can be ranked up, meaning you can eventually turn a 1 into a 5 (though you’d be mad to do this.)
There are several different ways we could have rationalized dozens of creatures into a single handy list. We chose to go with the good old alphabetical approach, for ease of reference. Next to each creature you’ll see its star rating, element, and role.

C Tier
C tier is easy. If you come across a creature at nat 2 or above that isn’t in any of the other tiers, it’s in C. That means you will find the odd 3 and 4 in this tier, such as the Lava Einherjar and the Freezing Death Knight.
And here’s a final tip for finding the best creatures.
Always, always bear in mind that the creatures in Elemental Guardians can be evolved. Sometimes they can even be evolved twice, meaning they have three potential forms overall. All the best creatures are ones that have been evolved. So whenever you pick up a 2-star creature, dig into its evolutions to see what it has the potential to become. You may even have the makings of an S-tier character, waiting to be unleashed.
One example is the Freezing Basilisk. This creature is in our S tier, but it starts out as a 2-star water Basilisk. If you have one of these wet, sorry-looking losers in your inventory, head to the Dragonmist Islands without delay to farm the evolution materials you need to turn your dud into a stud.
