2015’s Mr. Pumpkin Adventure saw players trying to help the main character, Mr Pumpkin, recover his lost memories by solving riddles.
Available on PS Vita, Xbox One, and Wii U, Mr. Pumpkin Adventure attracted a cult following, along with impressive reviews from users and critics alike (e.g., 9/10 on Steam, 8/10 on Nintendo Life).
So it’s great news for us that the sequel, Mr. Pumpkin 2: Walls of Kowloon, is coming to mobile. Developed by Cotton Game and published by Lilith Games, Mr. Pumpkin 2 will take the whimsical point-and-click puzzling of the first game and transfer it to the teeming streets of a neon lit metropolis.
More specifically, the game takes place in Kowloon Walled City, a notorious, filthy, crime-ridden settlement filled with hanging wires, dilapidated buildings, and self-taught dentists.
Kowloon Walled City, once the most densely-populated place on Earth, with 50,000 people packed into an area the size of a city block, was knocked down in the ‘90s and replaced with a park, so you can only experience it through photos, written records, and Mr. Pumpkin 2.
You’ll spend your time in Kowloon Walled City solving puzzles and searching for clues, Professor Layton-style, with the ultimate aim of trying to break the code of the Dragon Gate and escape. Buses, trams, and cable cars will ferry you from location to locations.
It promises to be a fascinating environment to explore, filled with colorful inhabitants desperate to glimpse the outside world.
And, like the original Mr. Pumpkin, Mr. Pumpkin 2 has a distinctive hand-drawn art style that manages to pay homage to Asian cinema of the ‘90s while being totally unique.
Mr. Pumpkin 2 also continues the efforts by Lilith Games to support indie developers across the world – with the aim to publish at least one boutique indie game every year.
Mr. Pumpkin 2 will be available for Android and iOS on April 23rd, but you can pre-register right now.
